My experiences with the horror genre I have always been aware of the occult and watching horror movies, but until recently I have become addicted to horror movies and movies in general. Horror movies are one of my favorite genres because after watching the movie I feel exhilarated, relieved, and fresh. I believe that being scared from watching things such as horror movies brings people a sense of cleansing, a catharsis because we have just faced one of our greatest fears and we come out on top, happy, and relieved that we survived, even though there was no real threat. When proposed with a real threatening situation, we are filled with hormones that prepare us the fight or take flight (basically fight or run from a situation). When watching a horror film, these hormones are released and we feel the same adrenaline rush as we would a real situation making it feel more exciting and better to watch. Only recently have I been watching a constant stream of horror movies, I only enjoy watching a movie with friends because it makes watching it feel a lot more fun and it makes it less scary for me. The Conjuring series I absolutely freaking love the Conjuring Series, though there are only two Conjuring movies, it has a spinoff series called Annabelle, which tells a story of a creepy doll that does some crazy stuff. As scary as it is, it feels a lot more cheep and it wasn't directed by the same director James Wan, who directed both of the Conjuring films. From my opinion, Annabelle really sucks, it fails as a spinoff of the Conjuring because it is not nearly as genuine as the Conjuring and the director really has a directing career even more terrifying than the movie itself. There are two Conjuring movies and both stunned me in both the scare quality and the quality of the movie itself. And also, this is based on a true story, and this time there was real evidence, there's a bunch of recordings of this guy in real life there are also even photos of the people who took place in the movie. So that’s pretty cool, and terrifying. Conjuring One The first Conjuring was pretty good, the acting was good and the characters were really well developed. The basic summary of the story includes a married couple who are famous paranormal investigators, a horrified family victimized by a demonic spirit, and the demonic spirit who really likes to climb onto closets and slam doors really hard. The family moves in and on the first night, their dog dies, the mother gets bruises on her arms, and there is a horrible stench in the house. It doesn't take long before a crap-storm hits the fan and all hell breaks loose. They see the Warrens (the married couple who are basically the religious version of the ghostbusters), on TV and decide to ask them what's going on in their house and reluctantly, the Warrens agree to come. Right when the Warrens see the children, the wife who is clairvoyant gets hit with some crazy vision and realizes that everything is not ok. After a slow two hours of them creeping around the house at day and people going nuts at night, there was one less demon inside the house and all was good. My only problem with the movie is that it moves really slowly and it pains me to watch and sit through the most suspenseful movie there was. At least that’s what I thought. I give the first Conjuring an A- because it moved way too slowly and the first hour of scares was super predictable because of the trailer. Conjuring Two The Conjuring Two, directed by James Wan, starring Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and a lot of terrified children. The second Conjuring is even better than the last, the acting was better and the characters were made even better than before, I even worried and felt bad for the characters and I normally don't even do that to people I know in real life, so that’s pretty impressive. We return to the cross wielding ghostbusters married couple, the Warrens. This time, there is a douche spirit that likes to play with the loudest children's toys there are in the middle of the night and tell the children to get out of his house. This time though, they are England and well, a kid gets possessed, a mother is in distress, and the Warrens come in to save the day. However, there are two ghosts, one haunting the British kids and one haunting Ed Warren and this spirit is gonna try to kill Ed Warren but thought it was a good idea to tell his wife which is probably the only person who can do something about it. The spirit even gave his wife her name which apparently is her only weakness so that was pretty smart. I really liked this movie and fixed the problem with the pacing of the movie because the movie had two arcs, the Warrens and the British family. They even gave a solution to the bad father actor situation, they just completely removed a father figure in the British family, so that's pretty good too. I give the Conjuring Two, an A because the movie is a horror movie in which I expect to be scared but I wasn't really looking for a story that had merithal problems. Heres the website to the official movie website, has some pretty cool info, scary effects, and warning, there is a bloody face that pops up somewhere so heads up. Check it out here Annabelle Let me say this first, don't bother watching Annabelle because first, it's just not good, second it hurts to watch such a good idea be wasted by crappy directing, and finally, it was directed by John R. Leonetti. You are probably asking yourself, "Hey who is John R. Leonetti?" Well, he directed Dead Silence, Butterfly Effect 2, and well two movies of the Mortal Kombat series. So you can already expect a lot of this movie none the less the director. The characters are so dumb that you can't care about them and for some reason they bring the most terrifying doll into their baby's room. The movie had some creepy moments but the movie is really dumb with cheap scares. Even though I loved the Conjuring, Annabelle was pure crap, I give it a D because I was frothing at the mouth after the most dumbest moments that I have ever seen in my life. And even though I nearly hated this movie I still see myself enetering the movie theater to see the sequel to this movie, Annabelle 2. |
